Her heart was broken
Like the glass on the ground
The night his heart gave way
She never was quite the same
Alone in the world she gave in to the
Fear that he had eased for so long
Something died inside her when he left
Never to return
If she could go back
What words would she use
How would she say
In that final moment what she felt for him
Before he faded away
Now shaking,
Shocked
Shivering
Left out in the cold by her master the world
Forgotten by that which she
Used to rely on the most
Her wings Incandescent
Long torn off by the child inside him
Her flight of fancy
Long since interrupted by the waking
She received the night he ceased
The fury of a lost existence
Her existence which she now
Bears through the days
She waits,
Wishing
Wanting
If only he could hold her again
If only death wasn’t a barrier
If only she could join him
The insecurity of life
Bearing her down
Futility weighing on her soul
Until the last light
Of a faint lightning bug
Flickers and fades away
With her wings Incandescent
Crushed against the windshield
The windshield that reminded her of that night
The windshield of
Life.
